Real Madrid defender confirms Manchester United interest
Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has confirmed that Mnachster United have made contact with him over a transfer in the summer.
Jose Mourinho, who signed the French defender for Los Blancos, is a huge fan of Varane and is keen on now bringing him to Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old is one of the most highly-sought after defenders in world football and prizing him away from the Santiago Bernabeu could prove tricky.
The defender has revealed that although Mourinho himself has personally contacted him, he has been contacted by club officials from Man United officials regarding a move.
Varane on Mourinho contacting him personally:
“No, not directly. There were contacts, but not directly.”
New defender targeted
Mourinho is keen to add a central-defender in the summer with the Portuguese manager unhappy with his current options.
In the summer, United shelled out £31m to acquire the services of Victor Lindelof from Benfica taking the 55-year-old’s total spend on central-defender to in excess of £61m.
Eric Bailly has been a big success at Old Trafford since his move from Villarreal, now Mourinho hopes to find him a suitable partner.
Toby Alderweireld is another player that United are targeting with the player’s contract situation at Tottenham Hotspur remaining unresolved.
