Barcelona star Lionel Messi has reportedly persuaded compatriot, Sergio Aguero to snub a move to Real Madrid and stay at Manchester City.
Madrid are already said to be on the lookout for fresh talent following their disappointing start to the campaign in La Liga and the Champions League. Madrid president Florentino Perez is keen to land a marquee signing, and Spanish publication Diario Gol claim Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero is at the top of his list.
But Messi has reportedly intervened to ensure Barca’s rivals aren’t boosted by Aguero’s arrival. Report suggests Messi has contacted Aguero to warn him not to join Madrid and to continue doing his best at the Etihad.
Aguero remains under contract with City until 2019 and Pep Guardiola would be unlikely to want to part with his star striker in the summer.
Aguero made history in midweek as he became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.

The Argentina international notched his 178th goal for City in their 4-2 win over Napoli in the Champions League.
“I am very happy for this moment. I am more happy for the win and to qualify, I am very happy today,” Aguero said. “I don’t know (how many more I can score) I think every game to play 100%, I don’t know how many more I can score. I just need to play the same way. To work.”
