Pep Guardiola would transform Paul Pogba
Sevilla 0 – Man United 0
Rather than what happened on the pitch, the big talking point after Man United’s drew at Sevilla was Jose Mourinho’s line-up.
The Red Devils scored a goalless draw in Spain in the Champions League last-16 first-leg.
Will that result bite United in the backside? While it’s easy to make the case that all Mourinho’s side need to do is beat Sevilla on home soil, at the same time Sevilla will progress with a score-draw.
Paul Pogba benched by Mourinho
In a big pre-game decision, Mourinho opted to leave Pogba on the bench for the Sevilla match.
Instead, United started with a midfield three of Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay.
As it happened, Herrera picked up an early injury. That forced him out the game after 17 minutes as Pogba was introduced as an early sub.
If Pogba was at Manchester City
On BBC radio, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright wondered how Pogba would be progressing if Pep Guardiola was his manager.
Would the 100 million euro be in better form with Man City? Wright thinks it’s a no-brainer:
Pep loves players. If Pogba is playing in that team I would put anything on it that he would not in the same frame of mind that he is right now.
I bet he is confused and doesn’t know what is going on.
I can totally understand why Manchester United fans are saying that he is not playing well but we are talking about a top top draw player who needs managing.
Man United are 16 points behind Man City in the Premier League. The Red Devils are back in action on Sunday when Chelsea arrive at the Theatre of Dreams.
