Manchester United’s four new deals
It’s yet to be confirmed by Manchester United, however according to the Telegraph it’s a ‘done deal’.
In a significant piece of housekeeping on Thursday, Man United ave locked down the immediate futures of four of their first team squad.
Journalist James Ducker has broken the news that Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Ashley Young and Daley Blind are now under contract until the end of the 2018-19 season. Readers are told:
The quartet would have become free agents this summer but United have moved to secure the players’ immediate futures and bolster their transfer values by triggering clauses that extend their deals by a further 12 months to June 2019.
United had already triggered the 12-month option in Luke Shaw’s contract before then with the England left back also contracted until at the end of next season. The players are understood to have received letters confirming the extensions.
Does that mean all four players will remain at Old Trafford next season? No, it doesn’t.
Instead it means that Man United have protected themselves against these four stars leaving for free in the summer.
Some fans may interpret this further, seeing the deals for Mata, Herrera, Young and Blind as forewarning that they may be about to be sold.
