Lionel Messi signs new deal
Spanish giants Barcelona have this morning confirmed that superstar Lionel Messi has put pen to paper on a new contract, tying him to the club until 2021.
Messi, who is regarded by many as being the greatest player of all-time, has spent his entire professional career to date at the Camp Nou, after arriving at the club as a youngster in 2001.
He has since gone on to establish himself as the finest player in the long and storied history of the club, with his wand of a left foot, unparalleled dribbling abilities, extraordinary vision and frankly ridiculous scoring feats having endeared him to the Camp Nou faithful for over a decade now.
Messi has been in typically scintillating form to start the current campaign, having racked up 15 goals and 4 assists between La Liga and the Champions League.
However, worries had arisen regarding the contract situation of the South American over recent months, with the presence of President Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sporting Director Robert Fernandez having reportedly led to a number of players questioning their futures in Catalonia.
Messi’s previous deal with the club was due to expire next summer, meaning he would have been free to open negotiations with other clubs from January 1st.
However, as per an official announcement from the club this afternoon, Messi has finally penned a new deal with Barcelona, tying him down until the summer of 2021:
The Argentine’s contract includes a massive 700 million Euro buyout clause.
