Most Intriguing People
People Magazine just released their list of the 25 most influential people of the year, and more than a few music stars made the list, along with a number of other prominent figures who made waves this year.
Bronx native Cardi B was this year's breakout rap star, rising to fame after a stint on Love & Hip-Hop: New York and dethroning Taylor Swift on the Billboard Hot 100 with her summer banger "Bodak Yellow." Some other artists who made the list: Rihanna, who launched her groundbreaking Fenty Beauty line earlier this year; Ariana Grande, who bravely led the One Love benefit after a terrorist attack killed 22 fans at her concert in Manchester, England; Bruce Springsteen, who's currently starring in his own Springsteen on Broadway show; and Blake Shelton, People's "Sexiest Man of the Year."
Jordan Peele "combined horror, humor, and an eviscerating exploration of racism" in his widely lauded directorial debut, Get Out. "Brash and hilarious" comedian Tiffany Haddish rocketed to stardom after her role in the raunchy Girls' Trip and subsequent SNL hosting gig, and is gearing up for a stand-up tour and memoir release, saying, “I’m enjoying every moment, even when I’m super sleepy!”
Some other trailblazers who made the list: quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who became "the symbol of the resistance" after setting off a chain reaction of athletes kneeling during the national anthem in protest; Gal Gadot, star of this year's Wonder Woman, which became the highest-grossing superhero origin film domestically and worldwide; and the soon-to-be married Meghan Markle and Prince Harry of Wales.
