Barcelona coach Valverde (and Messi) grappling with Luis Suarez dilemma
Despite their superb start to the season, Valverde remains frustrated with the system he wishes to employ.
Diario Gol says Valverde wants to play Lionel Messias a central striker, but it means pushing Suarez either out of position or to the bench.
For the moment, Valverde has been reluctant to do so, though has already spoken to the Uruguayan about his form and fitness.
Significantly, the coach has also spoken to Messi privately, with the Argentine pleading with Valverde not to give up on Suarez. Messi is convinced they can make the new system work – with Suarez in the starting XI.
But Valverde isn’t convinced, believing Suarez simply isn’t the same player on a flank as he is as a central striker. But for now, he’s agreed to follow Messi’s lead.
