ArsenalAs per a report from Spanish outlet Diario Gol, Arsenal have seen an offer for Karim Benzema knocked back by Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Prolific hitman

Benzema arrived in the Spanish capital from French outfit Lyon for around 40 million Euro 8 years ago, and has since gone on to see off competition from the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Raul and Ruud Van Nistelrooy to establish himself as the club’s undisputed first-choice centre-forward.

The Frenchman has racked up almost 200 goals across all competitions for Los Blancos, adding 2 La Liga crowns, 2 Copa Del Reys, 3 Champions Leagues, 3 UEFA Super Cups and a pair of FIFA Club World Cups to his trophy cabinet in the process.

Oft-Maligned

However, despite averaging a goal every two games during his stint with the European champions, Benzema is regularly subjected to heavy criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Gary Lineker recently took to Twitter to claim that the 29-year-old is ‘overrated’, whilst large sections of Real’s supporters have lashed out at Benzema this season based on his return of just 1 goal in 8 La Liga appearances.

London bound?

As a result, Real Madrid have been linked with moves for a number of big-name strikers over recent weeks, with the likes of Inter Milan hitman Mauro Icardi and Manchester City star Sergio Aguero touted as potential arrivals in the Spanish capital.

Such links have led to obvious questions over Benzema’s future at the Bernabeu, despite the fact that he only put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with Los Blancos in September.

And, as per the aforementioned report from Diario Gol, Premier League outfit Arsenal are looking to take advantage of this uncertainty, having lodged an offer of £40 million for the Frenchman.

However, the report also claims that the Gunners’ bid was laughed off by Real, who would expect a considerably higher offer to even consider parting ways with Benzema.
